Introduction:
Anne Frank wrote in her diary, "It is amazing how much noble, unselfish
work these people are doing, risking their own lives to help and save others."
She of course was referring to the brave people who were helping her and
her family hide from the Nazis. The number of non-Jews that risked their lives
to save Jews during the Holocaust is unknown. However, an important issue
researchers have examined is why these so-called righteous Gentiles rescued
Jews. What motivated these people to risk their lives to save a people who
were depicted as dirty, disease carrying, rodent-like, non-humans?
Follow the links below to provide some insights into why the righteous Gentiles
performed these brave acts. These books, articles, web sites, and films
examine the character traits of non-Jewish rescuers.
