Drucker, Malka. "Rescuers Speech." <http://www.malkadrucker.com/respeech.html>.
Malka Drucker claims that when we teach children about the Holocaust we must
tell them about the righteous individuals who helped save the Jews. Drucker
contends that the rescuers seem to have "found the meaning of life" through
their deeds and in their old age they were at peace. The non-Jewish rescuers
claimed to be ordinary people, not heroes. Drucker states the righteous Gentiles
were compassionate. Not only did they notice when Jews were in trouble, but
they found a way to help them.
Oliner, Samuel P. "Ordinary Heroes." Can Love Save the World. Winter
2001/2002 <http://www.futurenet.org/20spirituality/oliner.htm>.
This online article first chronicles Samuel Oliners own experience as a
child during the Holocaust. Then he describes his research as a sociologist
studying altruism and the motivations of righteous Gentiles. Oliner defines
altruism and those who exhibit altruism. He also lists reasons rescuers
gave for their brave acts. These reasons include religious, respect for
all human beings, tolerance of others, and feelings of brotherhood.
Lastly, Oliner offers tips for building altruism in our children and our
community.
